Global stainless steel output to hit 27 million tons in 2010

Global stainless steel output is expected to increase by 8 percent to 27 million tons in 2010 and 30 million tons in 2011, according to expectations in a report published by Roskill Consulting Group Ltd, a British market analyst.

Global stainless steel production in 2009 is estimated at 23.9 million tons, based on ISSF statistics.

The price of nickel is projected to remain stable at around US$20,000/ton this year. During 2010 to 2012, it may rise above US$22,000/ton.

The nickel surplus may hit 75,000 tons, as stainless steel production increases.
